Alex Chen obtained his bachelor’s degree in Municipal and Environmental Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology and Environmental Science-Ecology from the University of Waterloo. He then received his doctoral degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He also had post-doctoral research experiences at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Alex has extensive expertise in drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, eutrophication remediation, soil remediation, and environmental monitoring. He has served as the CEO of a technology company and is very experienced with project management, investment raising, and product development. Besides, Alex has several refereed publications in well-recognized journals as well as many conference publications. Alex is the investment director of Shanghai Yuren Investment Co., Ltd in Canada. He is also the Chair of the Chinese Environmental Scholars and Professionals Network and served as an advisor member of environmental NGOs.

Michael obtained his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology and Ecology from the University of Waterloo. He later received his Master of Applied Sciences degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Michael is specialized in: drinking water treatment, membrane technologies, ultrapure water processes, industrial wastewater treatment, disinfection and sterilization, and clean utilities. He has gained great expertise in process design and project management through his experience working in engineering consulting firms as a process engineer and a project manager. Michael has been involved in the management of a number of multi-million projects and participated in several multi-billion projects. Besides, Michael is a Director of the Association of Chinese Canadian Environmental & Municipal Professionals and also a member of AWWA and ISPE.

Dr. Shaun Frape, Professor at the Department of Earth Science at the University of Waterloo. His expertise mainly focuses on hydrogeology and geochemistry, specialized in groundwater flow systems as well as isotopic tracers for source attribution and contaminant fate tracking in natural/industrial systems. He has extensive research and project experiences globally including China, Europe, and North America.

Dr. Raymond Legge is a Professor of Chemical Engineering and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Waterloo.  His expertise is in biochemical engineering with applications to environmental engineering, water treatment, green bioprocesses, and pharmaceuticals. During his career he has published over 140 refereed publications, 10 book chapters and review articles, over 180 refereed conference and non-refereed conference proceedings and 3 patents. His career Google Scholar h-index is 37. He has served widely as a consultant both in the private and public sector.

Dr.Carolyn Ren is a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo and is also a member of Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology. She leads the Waterloo Microfluidics Laboratory to perform innovative research on the microfluidics and nanofluidics as well as the development of integrated Lab-on-a-Chip technology. She is also the Canada Research Chair in Droplet Microfluics and Lab-on-a-Chip Technology.

David Shen is the Civil Engineering Lead at SNC Lavalin Ottawa office. Having Served in various research institutions, consulting firms, and public sector, he has 16 years of experience in research, planning, design, construction, asset management, and operation liaison of water/wastewater infrastructures. He is a long standing member of Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) and MOECC Wastewater Practitioners Group. David currently also serves as an external panel reviewer with Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) as an industrial expert.

Dr.William D. Taylor 
Professor Taylor has studied diverse aquatic ecosystems, including lakes, rivers, and wetlands, focusing on nutrient cycles and food webs. He has been a Tier I Canada Research Chair and was the Canadian Co-Chair of the Science Advisory Board of the International Joint Commission.  He was awarded Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Canadian Council of University Biology Chairs and the Canadian Society of Limnologists.

Hailin Wang, CEO of the ETO Engineering in Toronto. He obtained his master degree from University of Toronto. With 20 years of experiences in industrial and municipal wastewater operation, he served in various environmental technologies companies and consulting firms as project manager and process design manager. He was also involved in the innovation and development of membrane bioreactor process. He is currently a committee member of Wastewater Treatment and Technologies at Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO).

Dr. William B. Anderson is a Research Associate Professor and the Associate Director of the Water Science, Technology & Policy Group at the University of Waterloo. He has been active in drinking water quality and treatment research for 37 years, recently focusing on perfluorinated compounds, cyanobacterial toxins, pathogen removal/inactivation, and biological filtration. He has served on the Boards of Directors of the Ontario Water Works Association and the Walkerton Clean Water Centre, and was involved with the revision and update of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment ‘Design Guidelines for Drinking-Water Systems’ and the ‘Optimization Guidance Manual for Drinking Water Systems’.

Ms. Ling Loerchner is the Chief Commercialization Officer and the Asia Managing Director at the University of Waterloo Commercialization Office (WatCo). She received her B.Eng in Electronics Engineering from Tsinghua University, M.Sc from the University of Waterloo, and MBA from the Wilfrid Laurier University. Served as Senior Advisor to the Mayor at City of Waterloo, she is responsible for the Innovation Economic Development and Global Strategy Oversight. Ms. Ling Loerchner has 25 years industrial experience in project and portfolio management, as well as product development and market strategy, including 5 years of experience gained in California’s Silicon Valley. She has successfully helped a number of startup companies to secure investments; on behalf of the University of Waterloo, she helped to establish and operate three venture capitals in China as a member of Investment Committee.

​​Dr. You-Zhi Tang is an Expert Advisor to the Chinese State Council’s Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, and Advisor to many Chinese Provinces and Cities. He is also Past President of Air & Waste Management Association-Ontario Section, Co-Chair of Canada China Sci-Tech Alliance, and the Founding Chairman for Canada-China Environmental Cooperation Council. He has been recognized as a leader in sustainable development, and has been featured in many media articles and TV shows, as well as three books on Chinese Canadian elites. He was a recipient of many awards including the Green Toronto Award and the Canada China Low Carbon International Development Award. He was named the 2015 Global Chinese Influential People in Environmental Science and Technology by Hong Kong Satellite TV.
